The Waist-Lined Redingote was first produced in 2011 and is an adaptation of the Type 900 denim jacket. The shoulders are cut on the bias, without a seam, and large symmetrical chest pockets are fitted into the front yoke seam. Where the 900 jacket finishes at the waist, this coat is cut longer, to mid thigh.

The word ‘redingote’ is a corruption of ‘riding coat’ and has historically referred to various different styles of long coat worn by men and women while riding. The coats were often lined to the waist only, with heavy wool, but left unlined in the tail, so that it would not bulk up when worn in a saddle.

The body fabric is a custom-made piece dyed heavy cotton broken twill, and the body and sleeves are lined with very heavy undyed wool, woven and finished in England to be made into tennis balls. With wear it will soften up a little but will remain very warm and windproof.
